Google Maps Mash-ups
Google Maps are pretty neat in general. With the recent fire in our area (Canyon Country) the City of Santa Clarita has put together a pretty neat mash-up of where the fires burned. It actually a gives pretty good perspective rather than some just random fire icon on a map. You can check the map of the burned areas out here.
Boom. I ordered an iMac 24″ 2.8 Ghz “Extreme”
Couldn’t resist the reality distortion field any longer. After a couple of days of going back and forth trying to decide between the 24″ iMac and a Mac Pro, I bit on the 24″ iMac. Reasons? Namely the 24″ monitor. At the end of the day a 2.8 GHz dual core chip is more than adequate to do what I need and I’d much rather have a ginormous monitor and it doesn’t hurt that with a wireless keyboard and mouse only have a power cable going into the iMac seems very appealing from a clutter standpoint. My home built AMD X2 4200 will become a file/media server and be relegated to the closet for now. Now Apple please ship the iMac pronto!
So you want to use your “Time Machine” on your Airport…
Originally Apple had included the ability for Time Machine in Leopard to backup to drives connected to Airport Extreme Base Stations, and well apparently it was dropped some way or another. Lucky someone has found a way to enable you to utilize this awesome feature that was removed. here are the directions:
- disconnect airport disk and plug into computer as a USB drive directly.
- Set up time machine to use this volume.
- In terminal cd to volume “cd /Volume/HDD”
- In terminal “touch .com.apple.timemachine.supported” this will create an invisible file.
- In terminal “sudo chown root:admin .com.apple.timemachine.supported”
- In terminal “sudo chmod 1775 .com.apple.timemachine.supported”
- In terminal “ls -l -a” the .com.apple.timemachine.supported file should be -rwxrwxr-t
- eject disk, unplug from mac, plug into Airport.
- mount at mac using connect to server in finder (command k) and afp://airportname.local./HDname
- see if time machine now sees the drive and tries to use it.
Thanks to A@ron at Macrumors for the tip!
It is good…
So Leopard is about to pounce (sorry couldn’t resist), and the reviews are in…. and they are strong. Looks like the unanimous feeling is Leopard is worth the price of admission. Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy tomorrow morning, and still wrestling with deciding whether or not to bite the bullet and order a new Mac desktop since my Vista box is having fits. Yeah I know I am stretching to justify but man o man do those Mac Pros just cook.

Someone drops the “R-Bomb”
Woops. Not looking good. Let’s all hope good ole Ben Bernanke doesn’t drop the rate again further damaging the dollar and fueling inflation. The piper is coming to town folks and he’s coming to collect everything, not just the kids. It’s looking more and more like 1987 all over again. Brace yourselves.
Can’t Hardly Wait
So Nightwish is coming to town and I am stoked. If you haven’t checked them out what are waiting for. Go here. Buy it. Rock out to it. The new singer Eva is the shizdizzle. Been looking forward to this for months if not years. Sure to not disappoint. So far Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, and Within Temptation have rocked my year chalk another one up for Nightwish. Hopefully.

Looky Loos are retarded. There I said it.
Ok I get it. It’s jarring to see a house burned to the ground that was there less than 24 hours ago. But really, do you need to drive up, stop, get out your car stand on my lawn and gawk. Or maybe you feel so inclined as to have the gall to walk over and stand in the rubble of someone’s home that was just taken from them. Seriously. If I weren’t a Christian I might be inclined to wish something horrible happen to you and your family and then have people buzz around and be irreverent. So do us all the favor of not buzzing around.
P.S. you news people are just as bad.
Ring of Fire
First post. Well Living in Canyon Country and the place nearly burns to the ground. Yeah. Seriously. Below is across the street from my house. Insane.
